The Jennifer Fulwiler Word Generator

I know that there are many people who have adopted the trend of selecting a word of the year to focus on, and last year I adopted this tradition as well with the word "fearless." While I didn't jump out of any planes or perform any death-defying stunts involving ferocious bears, I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone and took some risks in 2019. So I decided to pick a word of the year again using the Jennifer Fulwiler Word Generator. Granted, I wouldn't call myself a huge follower of Jennifer Fulwiler. I've listened to her Sirius XM show a few times and I read her book One Beautiful Dream, but I definitely feel like some of her best work is done with her word generator (and also her saint generator, but that's another site for another post!) But anyway, about a week ago, I tried the word generator and got this:

I felt like that word was too mild, so I tried it again and got this:

Getting a word that you're not too wild about gives you permission to pick a new one. Getting it twice means that the word picked you and there is no escaping it. So my word of the year for 2020 is community. I have always felt like I have the most incredible community lifting me up. Getting the word community as my word of the year, I can come to only one conclusion - this year I am going to get double the great community.

People who know me well know that I am surrounded by the best group of friends anyone could ever ask for, and I have never been denied a family that would be there for me whenever I needed them. I know that I am incredibly blessed. When I get together with my family, I know that I will be treated to memories of stories that I never knew happened (and let's face it, it is possible that they didn't) and when I am with friends, I relish in learning lessons from wives and mothers, husbands and fathers. When I am with my nieces and nephews, I revisit my childhood as they become interested in things that I loved when I was their age. I have friends who I know will accompany me through any celebration with good coffee and conversation and sacrifice for me with no questions asked if I were in need. We may not be perfect, so we can't love perfectly. But I know that they will be there in good times in bad, in extraordinary and ordinary times.

New years always bring about new adventures, but I know for certain that wherever I go and whatever I do, whatever new community I may move in to, I will take the ones that have formed me wherever I go.

Here's to a Happy 2020!
